PROGRAM OVERVIEW
For Artists By Artists (FABA) is grants-powered program that cultivates an inclusive creative economy by producing events and technical services for marginalized artists, staffed by marginalized artists.
Paid professional opportunities and technical services are vital to sustaining a creative career - but many marginalized artists struggle to gain access.
To address this, FABA executes productions with a twofold strategy: providing paid opportunities and free technical services to marginalized artists, while staffing and executing these productions with local marginalized skilled creative workers. With this model, all artists involved gain upward mobility in their creative careers and gain access to more opportunities.
FABA is designed and produced by Stephanie Houten Multimedia LLC, and was awarded funding by the Workforce & Professional Development Consultants for Artists & Creative Workers Request for Proposals (RFP) in 2022 through the City of Boston’s Arts & Culture Office. FABA is currently seeking funding for its next programming.
VIDEO SERVICES
FABA S1 provided high production value video content to artists who may not otherwise be able to access. Artists received music videos, promotional content, and strategic videos to support fundraising efforts. In addition to video services, FABA producers provided video strategy consultation on how to use video content for social media marketing, fundraising efforts, and to use in grant applications.
Some major achievements of FABA S1 were:
Providing videos to 100% BIPOC artists living in neighborhoods most impacted by COVID
Hiring virtually 100% women and genderqueer or gender-expansive crew
Providing 21 BIPOC and/or women and/or gender-expansive creative workers with work opportunities
Paid opportunities totaling approximately $20.5k for creative labor to produce videos
EVENT PRODUCTION
FABA is expanding its programming to include creative event productions that provide paid opportunities for featured and performing artists as well as behind-the-scenes creative workers, such as audio and lighting technicians, photographers, videographers, and more. FABA currently has two 2025 events in the works, and is seeking funding and partnerships for these events.
